Breaking New Ground: The Time for Legacy Hall is Now

Now, it’s our turn. If we all pull together and raise the remainder of the $44 million needed in private funding, we can begin building Legacy Hall in fall 2022.

I am pleased to tell you that the groundbreaking for the new home of the College of Business is closer than ever. We can confidently make that statement after the Florida Legislature and Gov. Ron DeSantis approved the state’s $101.5 billion budget, which included a $30.5 million allocation for Legacy Hall. This latest allocation, along with previous allocations in 2017 and 2018, brings the state-funded support for the new building to $44 million – completing the state’s portion of the project’s estimated total cost of $88 million.

With the state’s support in hand, our fundraising efforts for 2021-22 are laser-focused on securing the remainder of the building’s projected cost through private giving from alumni and other prospective donors.

This is where you come in. We need your help to reach our fundraising goals and make Legacy Hall a reality. We are asking all alumni and friends to make an investment in our college’s future to ensure our continued standing among the nation’s very best business schools. At the same time, we are leaving a legacy for countless generations of FSU students as we educate them to become tomorrow’s business professionals.

To refresh your memory about Legacy Hall, here are the vital statistics:

  • What: Legacy Hall, the new home of the FSU College of Business
  • Where: The Arena District at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Gaines Street
  • When: Groundbreaking – Fall 2022
                Opening – Expected Fall 2024
  • Cost: $88 million (as planned)
  • Size: 218,392 gross square feet (approximately 51% larger than Rovetta)
  • Architect: Goody Clancy (Boston, Mass.)
  • Construction: Culpepper Construction (Tallahassee, Fla.)
  • Next Steps: Continue the private fundraising between now and fall 2022
Complete the planning and construction documents – February 2022

Once we break ground, it will take approximately 22 to 24 months to complete construction. Legacy Hall will be FSU’s single largest academic building and will anchor the southeast corner of campus in the Arena District – an area encompassing the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center, the FSU College of Law, the Augustus B. Turnbull III Florida State Conference Center, a planned FSU hotel and other future amenities. Put another way, Legacy Hall will be a cornerstone building at the future front door of the Florida State University campus.

We need you now more than ever! I encourage all alumni and friends to make an investment in our future by donating to the Legacy Hall Fund (Fund F01069). Gifts can be made online and larger amounts can be pledged over five years. Download our Legacy Hall brochure or visit our website to see all giving opportunities. As we approach the 75th anniversary of the founding of the College of Business in 2025, there is no better time for us to establish a new foundation for our future and leave our legacies. The time is right for Legacy Hall.

It’s our turn. I hope you will join me in making an investment in Legacy Hall!

Warmly,

Mike
